Caring for others has always been a passion for ECH Community Nurse Anne Philbey, who recently celebrated 25 years of service for ECH in 2020.
Anne was surprised to hear that she was celebrating a career milestone, as she lost count of the years a long time ago! She started working with ECH as a Carer in 1995 and then after taking a short refresher course transitioned into a nursing role.
Anne’s motivation for wanting to work in the care industry was that she believes everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, and finds it rewarding to help older people live independently in their own homes.
Anne’s role involves a variety of duties including administering complex medication, providing injections, insulin and wound care.
She also cares for clients who have returned home from hospital and checks in on their health and wellbeing to make sure they are managing at home.
“When people get home from a stay in hospital, they can be a little unsure of how to take care of themselves, so it’s really rewarding to be able to help people regain their independence,” says Anne.
Another important part of her role is providing social connection to clients, something that Anne loves.
“I have a lot of clients that I see regularly, and I have come to know them really well.”
Even though Anne’s role has changed quite a bit over the years with ECH, she enjoys working for a company that is progressive, along with people who have become friends.
“I’ve always liked the people I work with. My colleagues and ECH clients make coming to work everyday something I look forward to.”
ECH congratulates Anne on reaching this incredible milestone and looks forward to working with her into the future.
